Google's February 8th Event
50% chance that Google will unveil its ChatGPT clone on February 8 Event
Hey Everyone,
Given the speed of Microsoft’s adoption of ChatGPT and GPT-4 tech of OpenAI into its software suite, Google needs to act fast and release Apprentice Bard or Sparrow into Google search around the same times Microsoft will do so with Bing, which is just days or weeks away.
Google wants to use "the power of AI to reimagine how people search."
Google will not want to be outdone by Microsoft that needed to basically acqua-hire OpenAI.
OpenAI, the company behind the chatbot ChatGPT, has ramped up its hiring around the world, bringing on roughly 1,000 remote contractors over the past six months in regions like Latin America and Eastern Europe, according to people familiar with the matter, as reported by Semafor.
Google has a very big monopoly in Search and Search Advertising and won’t want to give up any of that to Microsoft or others using Generative A.I. upgrades like ChatGPT.
Google’s Red Alert A.I. Event
Google investing in AnthropicAI whose focus is on improving saftey and RLHF really is smart with a 10% stake.
Google is hosting what can only be described as an "emergency" event.
Google says it’s “reimagining how people search for, explore and interact with information, making it more natural and intuitive than ever before to find what you need.” This will result in “greater access to information for people everywhere, through Search, Maps and beyond.”
This as ChatGPT has gotten 100 million users in two months, with planets to have ChatGPT Plus $20 and a 7$ premium version of Microsoft Teams with ChatGPT to help with meetings and automation.
As for OpenAI’s recent splurge after the $10 billion boost in funding, about 60% of the contractors were hired to do what’s called “data labeling” — creating massive sets of images, audio clips, and other information that can then be used to train artificial intelligence tools, basically mostly paying Africans like $2 an hour. This is something Scale A.I. is known for and widely used by these Silicon Valley companies.
The February 8th, 2023 event by Google could be the most important announcement of new products we’ve seen in years by Google, they may not want to wait for their I/O conference in May or June. Things are heating up too fast with Bing, as a potential disruptive competitor.
It’s not clear how ready the LaMDA based tool Apprentice Bard is, or how it fits with DeepMind’s Sparrow. However Google has at least a PaLM based competitor to GitHubs Copilot.
Mark the Date
The 40-minute event will be streamed on YouTube on February 8th at 8:30AM ET.
Live in two days from Paris:
Some analysts believe Google might even simultaneously launch their ChatGPT competitor even as the new Bing goes live.
Google's parent company, Alphabet, had its earnings call yesterday, and Google/Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai promised that “very soon people will be able to interact directly with our newest, most powerful language models as a companion to Search in experimental and innovative ways.”
