I often speculate on the impacts of Generative AI on things like ad-tech and gaming. The reason is these are two very big total addressable markets (TAMs). This is also why Microsoft is the world’s most valuable company, it is diversified in both gaming and advertising among its Cloud and software applications monopoly. Microsoft is easily the most diversified magnificent seven company.
I actually think OpenAI’s Sora has more implications for YouTube stock video and creating Advertising videos than gaming thus far. Although cut-scenes for games could be enhanced by the technology. While Holywood debates the impact of Sora and text-to-video on the entertainment industry, there are a lot of releases that have more immediate gaming implications.
Google DeepMind is still a R&D powerhouse when it comes to A.I. and they release a lot of products that gets lost in the AI News cycle. Some of Google’s AI product release can amount to something with a more focused emphasis.

Just as Sora can conjure up 1-min long Videos, Genie can conjure up simple games just from an image.
Trained on over 200,000 hours of gameplay videos, the experimental model can turn any image or idea into a 2D platformer.
On Monday February 26th, 2024, Google’s AI venture DeepMind showcased a live demo of Genie, a generative AI model that can create playable games from a simple prompt after learning game mechanics from hundreds of thousands of gameplay videos.Â
There’s a lot to say about this exciting development.
