Hey Everyone,
With new AI funds on the way like we are seeing from a16z, a proposed $6 Billion fund for AI, the proliferation of LLMs is going to accelerate in the 2020s.
Suddenly, GPT4 has four apparent competitors (not including out of China):
Gemini 1.5
Mistral Large
Claude 3 Opus
Inflection-2.5
Inflection’s launch really felt under the radar and poor timing on their part.
Inflection announced last week on Thursday that Pi has been using a new model, version 2.5, in recent weeks and that the updated engine is now "powering Pi for the majority of users."
When Inflection raised $1.3 Billion in 2023 it felt like a lot of compute for Pi. Microsoft, Reid Hoffman, Bill Gates, Eric Schmidt, and new investor NVIDIA were all getting involved.
With Mustafa Suleyman, it always felt a bit odd to me between his new book and his new startup. But Microsoft’s desperation in AI doesn’t seem to have many limits for it’s hope to catch AWS and steal more Search advertising marketshare. But a nice chatbot?
Inflection says:
“Inflection-2.5 approaches GPT-4’s performance, but used only 40% of the amount of compute for training.”
Inflection-2.5 is available to all Pi's users today, at pi.ai, on iOS, on Android, or our new desktop app.
