Open-Source AI is starting to show a Bubble in A.I. Startup funding?

Hello Everyone,

Something really weird has occurred in the Open-source AI space. Former AI researchers — previously working for Google DeepMind and Meta — co-founded Mistral AI in May 2023 to develop open-source generative AI models.

Paris based startup Mistral AI has secured €105 million ($113 million) seed funding despite operating without a public website.

HuggingFace was founded in France, and here we go again!

Arthur Mensch, the CEO, was previously at Google’s DeepMind. And not for long judging by the baby faced A.I. assassin. But the amount they raised given that they just literally started is raising some eyebrows.

Before co-founding Mistral AI, Mensch was a research scientist at Google Deep Mind. The other two co-founders, Timothee Lacroix and Guillaume Lample worked at Facebook AI as a research engineer and research scientist, respectively.
