Musk is planning a “TruthGPT” AI initiative to rival OpenAI and Google’s DeepMind, he said .In an interview with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, the billionaire tech tycoon said he will launch a “maximum truth-seeking AI” platform called “TruthGPT.”
After urging for an AI pause over security concerns, billionaire businessman Elon Musk has announced he will be launching his own artificial intelligence platform called 'TruthGPT'. It certainly sounds like a very political sort of A.I.
What will TruthGPT be like?
Musk said TruthGPT will be the “maximum truth-seeking AI” that tries to understand the nature of the universe. "This might be the best path to safety, in the sense that an AI that cares about understanding the universe, is unlikely to annihilate humans because we are an interesting part of the universe," he said.
Regulating A.I.
Musk told Carlson he envisions a regulatory agency that “initially seeks insight into AI, then solicits opinion from industry, and then has proposed rule-making,” something like the Federal Aviation Administration and the way it has come to work with aviation and aerospace companies. With an agency and industry-accepted rules in place, “I think we’ll have a better chance of advanced AI being beneficial to humanity,” Musk said.
Though exactly what the TruthGPT is going to look like is not clear yet, he is serious about the AI platform as last month Musk registered a firm named X.AI Corp. I covered it here in some more detail.
Elon Musk’s X app and X Corp seem like he is trying to build his legacy, he’s now in his 50s and is taking a different approach to both political influence and technology leadership.
Musk appears all over the place, somewhere between Mars and Earth. Previously, Musk signed a letter calling for a pause on advanced AI research, which he and others believe can harm society.
“Contemporary AI systems are now becoming human-competitive at general tasks, and we must ask ourselves: Should we let machines flood our information channels with propaganda and untruth?” the letter read.
TruthGPT honestly sound like something Donald Trump would make up.
Musk has suggested that TruthGPT will be a more transparent option than OpenAI, which has been criticized for its lack of transparency. The AI software nonprofit that Musk helped found has since begun operating a for-profit subsidiary.

Musk added that he is worried that current AI technology is “being trained to be politically correct, which is simply another way of ... saying untruthful things.”
The One Truth A.I.
Musk framed TruthGPT as a course correction to OpenAI, the AI software nonprofit he helped found, which has since begun operating a for-profit subsidiary. Musk implied that OpenAI’s profit incentives could potentially interfere with the ethics of the AI models that it creates and positioned “TruthGPT” as a more transparent option.
