Hey Everyone,
Snapchat’s My AI has been one of the most interesting integrations of Generative A.I. into an app that I have seen in 2023.
In a review released in June, barely a month after the bot's launch, Snap said that more than 150 million people had already sent 10 billion messages to My AI, making it one of the most trafficked consumer chatbots in the world.
Snap has a market cap of $15 billion which is likely pretty overvalued, but it has a lot of daily active users for an unprofitable company. The average price target for the stock is $10.41. But the stock’s price is already at $9.36 at the time of writing. Snap lost $377 million in a recent quarter.
I predict Snap’s “Dreams” product will actually be pretty innovative. So Snapchat is preparing to further expand into generative AI features, after earlier launching its AI-powered chatbot My AI, which can now respond with a Snap back (TechCrunch), not just text.
With the company’s forthcoming generative AI feature called “Dreams,” Snap will again experiment with AI images — but soon, those images may contain you and your friends in imaginative backgrounds.
Snapchat came out with ‘My AI’ in February, which enables you to chat with an AI bot, and ask questions, within the app. Snap’s users seem to have taken to My AI pretty well offering them more options and more retention while using the app.
App researcher and developer Steve Moser has discovered that Snapchat has been working on features that allow users to take or upload selfie photos, which the app can then use to generate new pictures of them in the scenarios they imagine. This functionality is similar to existing AI photo apps on the App Store.
Accordingly Steve Moser tipped Sarah Perez of TechCrunch and this is how we today have this story. One in particular — an app called Remini — went viral last month as TikTok users realized they could upload their selfies in order to receive professional-looking headshots for LinkedIn without having to pay for a pro photo shoot.
GenZ are of course early adopters of Generative A.I. productes, features and short-cuts. Snap is basically where they grew up along to some extent with YouTube, TikTok and Instagram.
There are also visual creation tools, powered by AI and it’s a race with Snap, TikTok and Instagram among others who can fuse them with social media apps the best. So far I have to say Snap might be winning. Snap’s always been pretty innovative with product.
What is Dreams Really?
